Custom Content FAQ

What happens to the content I don’t select?
After you have made your download selection and your brief expires, we will take your non-selected content through a careful inspection process. When looking at the non-selected assets, we consider three components:  model, wardrobe, and background. If two out of the three match an asset you have chosen, this would create a “sister” relationship, and that content would immediately be archived and not move to our stock website. We undertake this process with the highest integrity and consideration to your brand and exclusivity. Only the non-selected content outside of a "sister" relationship to anything you have chosen would be offered to our stock site. In the case of product placement, this content would be archived and not moved to the website due to all of Getty's stock offering being royalty free.

Can I access imagery from my briefs later, for additional downloads?
Once the brief closes, the content you didn’t select goes through our review process, and non-similar files are published on our site. This means that past brief imagery is not accessible for downloads after your 30-day selection window closes. Make sure you select all the assets you like to benefit from the exclusive Custom Content license.

What if I run out of downloads on my subscription?
We love to hear it that you’re happy with the results! We can easily add extra downloads on your account at the same price per image.

Can I return my downloads if I change my mind?
Once you download an asset, you can start using it exclusively. Keep in mind that downloads you make are not reversible, so please ensure you carefully download those images or videos you'd like to keep - they will count towards your download cap and cannot be returned.

How do product placement briefs work?
Our briefing form allows you to specify the product you want to feature in the content. If the product is affordable and easily accessible (for example, cereal), our creators will source it themselves to include in their shoots. If the product requires shipping, we will pre-select participating creators based on your brief requirements, for shipments to be organized. The customer is responsible for shipping – these costs are not included in the Custom Content subscription. Please allow additional 2-4 weeks for production on briefs requiring product shipment. For more information, view the page How Product Placement works

What if I don’t like any of the content?
We work hard to make sure this doesn’t happen – that’s why briefs are important, and we discuss them with you before we commit to shooting. Since there are multiple contributors per brief there is variety across the content delivered so there are many options to choose from. One of the strengths of Custom Content is that it is an iterative process.  With each brief, we learn more about your preferences and can adjust future briefs to address any gaps in the content produced and fine-tune our results.

Can we get images and video of the same shoot?
This could be possible. Our team will advise the likelihood of that based on your requirements, as not all creators are able to shoot both stills and footage. You will need to submit two briefs to get images and video for the same brief topic.

Will images be retouched?
Images and video clips will be supplied in the same format and editing level as you see on our site, with standard adjustments by each participating creator. Note that we do not supply RAW files. The assets we provide are always of high enough resolution to allow you the freedom to edit in post-production in any way you wish, for use in any and all media.

Can I have content produced in a specific country or city?
We usually recommend global coverage to ensure more variety and choice of content. However, depending on your brief requirements and locations, it may be possible - our team will advise when reviewing your brief.

Are there topics or locations I'm not able to get covered with Custom Content?
We recommend focusing your brief on outdoor and home-based locations, and scenarios featuring up to 3 people. With crowdsourcing, it is not possible to shoot large groups, or shoot in places that require a permit: hospitals, schools, airports, specific businesses among others. Landmarks or locations that are not suitable for commercial use are also excluded. Our creative team can advise on what is in scope based on your specific requirements, please reach out if you have any questions.

Can I see the content while the brief is in progress?
In-progress content is not a good indication of the final result, as many creators upload right on the deadline. We will let you know when the brief is ready for your review. Until then, rest easy knowing our team is working hard to create great content for you.

Can I access a storage system for my Custom Content downloads?
Yes! Our DAM solution - Media Manager powered by Brandfolder - helps distribute and manage your exclusive downloads securely within your organization. It can also be used for managing your broader visual library. Ask our team for details and bundle pricing.
